B-Post - Smarter Strength for Demanding Openings

Discover the quick, simple and cost effective alternative to hot rolled steel

  • Savings of 40-75% when compared to hot rolled steel posts
  • B-Post contains carbon negative timber from sustainably managed forests
  • Standardised design and detailing reduces the chances of installation defects
  • B-Post is fixed directly to structural substrate and is independent of partitions

Time to re-think how we build openings in partition walls

Our Betan B-Post is a patented innovation that redefines how demanding openings are supported within drywall partitions. Unlike traditional hot rolled steel—which is heavy, costly, and often over-engineered; the B-Post is a purpose-designed system, lighter to handle yet proven to perform. By sitting seamlessly within the partition wall cavity, it delivers strength and compliance without the drawbacks of steel.

Designed to Reduce Defects

B-Post was created to address real-world site challenges, which until now required bespoke hot rolled steelwork to support heavy door sets and large service openings. By standardising the solution with minimal components and supplying it in kit form, Betan is leading the way in eliminating installation defects and noncompliance issues.

Hot Rolled Steel Posts V B-Post
Additional board encasement maybe required for fire protection, increasing material and trade interfaces and likelihood of defects V Sits entirely within partition cavity with no additional materials or works required to maintain fire performance
Each project requires custom designed, detailed and fabricated steelwork which introduces variability V Manufactured and supplied in kit form ensures standardisation and reduces the chance of non-compliant materials being installed
Unique products require bespoke fixing methods V All opening configurations are installed using same installation methods to promote familiarity
Difficult to alter onsite, with high-risk hot works often required V Easily altered to suit multiple configurations utilising standard detailing
Integration of electrical wiring and services penetration at door heads and jambs are not possible V Jambs and heads are tested with service distribution holes in each section

Smarter Program & Cost Benefits

Traditional hot rolled posts often require engineering design, long lead times and expensive site alterations. The B-Post challenges this with an off-the-shelf kit that can be installed with standard tools and instructions. Its built-in flexibility allows on-site adjustments without redesign, delivering higher performance at 40-75% of the hot rolled steel costs.

Hot Rolled Steel Posts B-Post
High material fabrication and installation costs - increasing if steel encasements are required for fire V Installing B-Post can generate cost savings of 40-75%
Specialist erectors required to install steel and additional trades to encase steelwork where fire protection is needed V Can be carried out by Partition fixers at time of 1st fix installation - eliminating additional trades and multiple visits
Installation often requires several hours of high-risk activities by 2-3 highly skilled operatives V Can be installed by 1-2 operatives in a fraction of the time of hot rolled steelwork
Difficult to move and often requires specialist lifting equipment V Lightweight, easy to move and handle, no specialist lifting equipment needed
Requires upfront program time and costs for engineering and coordination V Supplied in kit form and no engineering or design required - BIM integration available

Environmental Responsibility

Hot rolled steel carries one of the highest embodied carbon footprints in construction. By contrast, the B-Post is a carbon-negative material that locks away more CO₂ than it emits during production. Every installation contributes to lower project emissions while supporting sustainable regenerative forestry.

Hot Rolled Steel Posts B-Post
(70x70x6mm SHS) V (70x75mm B-Post)
100m of SHS creates approx. 2,773 kgCO₂eq of carbon emissions in Production phase (A1-A3) V 100m of B-Post creates 148 kgCO₂eq of carbon emissions in the Production phase (A1-A3)
There is no stored carbon in hot rolled steel V 100m of B-Post includes 388 kgCO₂eq carbon storage therefore timber elements are carbon negative (-240kg CO₂eq)
Hot rolled steel comes from a finite iron mining source V B-Post comes from renewable, sustainably managed forests with continual replanting
High energy demand needed to manufacture heavy duty bracketry required to fix hot rolled posts V Cold rolled bracketry with no welding, reduces energy consumption and waste
Can be recycled, but is energy-intensive V Can be efficiently reprocessed into Bio-energy
Heavy, fewer pieces per load = higher transport emissions V Lightweight, more pieces per load = lower transportation emissions

Safer Handling & Better Logistics

On site, the difference is immediate. B-Posts are lightweight enough to be moved by hand, reducing manual handling risks and eliminating the need for specialist lifting equipment. With no hot works required, installation is safer, faster, and cleaner; improving site logistics while supporting your health and safety goals.

Heavy sections require lifting plans and specialist training to distribute V Lightweight sections are easy to handle and can be manoeuvred by hand
70x70x6mm SHS sections at 5m long weigh approximately 60kg V A comparable 70x75mm 5m long section of B-Post weighs approximately 13kg and is 78% lighter
Any alterations to steel sections often require high risk hot works V Alterations can be made easily onsite using basic hand tools with no hot works
Coordination between multiple trades is needed to integrate steelwork and encasement board where fire protection is required V B-Post is contained within the partition cavity and installed at time of partition 1st fix by Dryliners, eliminating the need for additional trades and multiple visits
Project specific posts require constant revision of installation method with little familiarity or repetition V Standardised kits reduce risks by promoting product knowledge, consistency and familiarity

Proven Compliance, Built In

B-Post is tested to industry standards: Severe duty strength and robustness to BS 5234-2:1992 and integration within 60 minute fire rated walls tested to BS EN 1364-1:2015. Sitting entirely within the stud wall cavity, the B-Post is protected from fire by the partition boards with no additional linings required. Fixings directly into the substrate at head and base, ensure the B-Post remains self supporting and independent of the partition wall system

Repair - Refine - Reform: the construction industry is full of products and standards that don't talk to each other, resulting in workarounds, compromises and defects. We don't accept that - if solutions don't exist, we create them
